Death toll in China earthquake rises to 8,533
A massive earthquake struck central China on Monday, killing more than 8,500 people, trapping nearly 900 students under the rubble of their school and spilling ammonia from a chemical plant, state media reported.

Figures worsen for Myanmar disaster
The latest UN estimates for the cyclone disaster in Myanmar suggest up to one point nine million people are struggling to survive its aftermath, and 220 thousand people are missing over a week after the storm. While these figures have leapt up, there is no corresponding upping of the pace of the rescue effort. Water queues get longer, when there is any water to queue for, and it is the same for food and shelter.
