Breakfast at Edik's

"I'm feeling so good. I feel like a million bucks. I'm focused, I'm alert, I'm zippy and top of my game.. I've never felt better! I'm sharp as a tack right now. And what's weird is that I didn't get a good nights sleep last night. And they say that's the most important thing.. Or is it breakfast they said?..That's the most important meal of the day, breakfast... yes. And then it's 'i' before 'e' I know that... Um... diamonds are a girl's best friend. Dog is a man's best friend... What was I talking about?... Oh that's right, that I feel great and I'm at the top of my game. And it's odd because I didn't get hardly any sleep last night. And, they say that's the most important thing."  -Ellen DeGeneres

A healthy way to start your day- a peanut butter and banana sandwich to go with your caffeine blast. Simple, easy and healthy. Why not try it?

Cold and hungry while waiting for a super typhoon

Woke up at 5 in the morning and feeling cold and hungry. I wondered how my sister and relatives in Manila were feeling at this time. They still have not responded to my text messages. I have this feeling that they are doing fine. I am sure they are not dead yet.

I went out and had my breakfast at Jollibee. I miss my favorite breakfast beverage there- hot creamy chocolate so much so that I got 2-3 cups to ease my feeling of coldness.

On my way there, I saw this man at the corner. Happy, contented and not caring about the world. He was eating Jollibee. I saw a happy smile in him. I wondered if he has family. I wondered if he has a place called home. Because every day, even if there is a storm, I saw him in that area like he was living in this part of the street, selling cigarettes at daytime and covered with rags during the night. But now he seemed so happy.

I felt happiness inside me too. His happiness radiated to me.

I like Cebu during this time of the day. Cebu seemed quiet with less jeepneys plying in the streets. During early mornings you could really enjoy peace in the city. Less people. Less traffic. Someone was even burning dry leaves somewhere. I smelled it. Reminded me of home.

But the horizon was still gray and the winds were starting to pack. A super typhoon is expected again to ruin the country.

un-Pinoy breakfast

Honestly I rarely have a Pinoy breakfast.

You know, the usual garlic rice, tapa or corned beef, or tuyo at kamatis and eggs. Not that I'm on a diet. Or not Pinoy. I rarely even eat breakfasts. Or lunch hehehehe. (Some Pinoy breakfasts daw are eaten at 1 a.m. while drunk and you can't see the fatty ingredients on them, according to Filipeanut.com.) I'm choosy actually. Depende sa gana.

When I was in Zamboanga I ate a plateful of camote tops salad with bagoong! It was my lunch. Yummy. Slurp.

Lately I have this craving for bagels! So I bought some cinnamon/raisin bagels at Frenchbaker, P88 per pack of 5 (although the poppyseed bagel from Starbucks @ P30 each is delicious too but not cheap!), and fresh fruits from the sidewalk.

Today, I had a hearty brunch of bagels with tuna spread, banana and hot hot coffee!

Isn't that lovely? (read that with an Irish twang please.) :p
