Again, beer is good!

Moderate drinking of beer, like a pint a day, keeps the doctors away, according to Spanish researchers. In case you want to justify your drunkenness- Moderate means once or twice a day, Pint means 2 cups of that liquid only.

But- yes, there is a BUT. Read on-

A pint of beer a day keeps the doctor away by Richard Alleyne, The Telegraph
Moderate drinking of ale and lager can cut the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure and even help people lose weight, doctors say.
The Spanish researchers suggest combining beer with exercise and a healthy Mediterranean diet high in fish, fruit and vegetables and olive oil.
Beer contains folic acid, vitamins, iron and calcium and has the same health benefits already attributed to moderate wine drinking, researchers found.
And they blamed fatty foods like chips, a lack of exercise and binge drinking for beer bellies in Britain.
Dr Ramon Estruch, the lead researcher, said: “Moderate beer consumption is associated with nutritional and health benefits.

My bad: drinking in public despite the liquor ban

I admit I have been bad without me noticing how bad I was.

Last October 25 at past one in the morning, I went to Doy's (Borja Street, Tagbilaran City, a few meters from Brewpoint; telephone 038.501.8724), and had my first bottle of Below Zero Red Horse in Bohol. I drunk all four bottles straight all in the honor of below zero beers in Tagbilaran. They were free, courtesy of Doy's owner.

Doy's is the best place to have videoke with friends in the comfort of their private rooms. I was so comfortable that I publicly challenged the law. Honest, this is not for the free beers I got from there.

On the eve of the Barangay Elections last Monday, I also raised a bottle of San Mig Light right infront of police officers at the Acacia de Bubu, the new place to have barbecue in Tagbilaran. They did not noticed and seemed not to care. Maybe because I am surrounded by beautiful ladies?

I only noticed my transgression with law when I finished all the beers.

Kampai!

Kampai! Me raising a beer right infront of the police.
See those officers at the back? The girl infront is our picture-taker Chin-chin.
Another bottle for the elections!

The perfect beer

Drinking beer doesn't make you fat, It makes you lean.... Against bars, tables, chairs, and poles.

Mooon Cafe brags about their below zero beers. Beer this cold is perfect to imbibe to end the day. And served only here at their branch in IT Park, Lahug, Cebu City. Why not ask for more?

So very Filipino

We were craving for beer and wanting to check on the new tambayan here in Cebu called The Strip. The former Food Street now renovated and spanky clean has a 24-hour store and crowds of young professionals and students frequent the area. It used to be a smelly place near the Capitol building but we heard it was foreclosed and now the bank is managing the area.

Well- when we arrived there, some moneyed patrons, judging from the cars that parked there, have already convereged on the area. We barely have a table and seats available.

We have consumed about ten bottles of the newly introduced San Miguel Premium All Malt beer when the sudden urge of the call of nature, also known as peeing, a result from the beers that bloated us, was inevitable. I asked the counter girl where can I go. She told me to ask the guard.

The guard was nowhere to be found so I sat still. When he appeared I was more than happy. Smiling, I asked him the directions to the comfort rooms. He told me plainly, Wala man mi CR diri sir [We have no CRs here sir]. Sa kilid-kild lang sir. [Just pee on the sides].

Well-

Rainy Saturday Night and All I want is One Cold Beer

After a brief meeting at the printing press, I have nothing else to do but breath. I told the people at the press I really need to drink or else I would hyperventilate. They laughed at me.

Honestly I have been in drought for a long time now. Maybe a bottle would drown me.

Last night, feeling restless I planned to go out and have a bottle or two. But the rain stopped me.

And as planned today, I walked home after some window-shopping at Robinson's when the rain made its unannounced entrance. How I wish I could drop in some cozy place and have beer but it was too early for the bars to open. I tried Shakey's but they only serve draft beer. I hate its taste!

So I walked home and let the rain drench me with the hope of washing away that thirst.

I was panting when I arrived home. The rain didn't quenched my desire for beer.

Damn! I thirst!

Wine 101: The basics- You understand beer, wine will follow

Let's face it, if there is one beverage most guys have down, sure it's beer. So, since you've spent years honing your beer palette let's use those skills in defining various wine types (varietals).

Light beer is like: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio. Why? These wines are crisp, refreshing, and great on a hot day when you're sweating. Wine snob descriptors- Citrus, cut grass, floral, light body. The real descriptors- Pretty easygoing, low stress flavors, kind of like lemonade or maybe key lime pie.

Wheat beer/golden ales: Chardonnay. Why? More gusto, less subtle than the wines above, good with lots of different foods. Wine snob descriptors- Apple, peach, vanilla, butter. Real descriptors- Vanilla ice cream, on apple pie- creamy flavor with buttery goodness... mmmmm!

IPA/pilsner: Merlot, Pinot Noir. Why?Lighter reds, usually smooth and easier to handle than some of the big daddy red below. Wine snob desciptors- Cherry, plum, velvety, subtle. Real descriptors- A subtle version of cherry pie filling, ripe plums in the summer.

Dark beer/stout: Cabernet, Syrah. Why? Big, rich red wines with body (get your mind out of the gutter- just means they've got umph- lots of flavor and texture). Wine snob descriptors- black cherry, dried fruits, smoky oak. Real descriptors- Kind of like beef jerky with cherries or maybe chocolate covered fruit. It's good.

Ode to Beer

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Need for Caffeine Boost

And because it was a boring day, with nothing to do, the Apat Na Hari decided to have coffee at Bo's Coffee Club in Ayala Center Cebu to boost bland personalities and bad tempers.

It did not help. It should rather be beer.
